Since the first symposium in Brno, Czechoslovakia, in 1971, CIPA symposia have served as an essential international crossroads for a broad community of researchers, professionals, and site managers interested in recording, understanding, and preserving cultural heritage. CIPA was founded in 1968 by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) to promote the transfer of technology from the measurement sciences to the field of heritage documentation and recording. Since then, the biennial symposium has enabled this ever-growing community to meet, discuss, network, and stay informed.
